On December 6, 2013, more than 40 talents from shipping, logistics industry in the whole nation gathered on Dong Ming Road Campus of Shanghai Maritime University to attend the foundation ceremony of Shanghai Advanced Institute of International Shipping when the plague of the institute was shown by the president and the opening ceremony of 2013 Shipping Finance EMBA program of Shanghai Maritime University. This signified the foundation of Shanghai Advanced Institute of International Shipping which had been prepared for a year.

The institute has received wide attention from the media since it was founded. On December 8, 2013, Liberation Daily reported its foundation. After that, Evening Newspaper, Chinese Transportation Newspaper, Pudong Times and other central and Shanghainese news media successively reported this piece of news as well. In the meantime, more than 10 news websites including People’s Daily, Xin Hua, Chinese News, China Taiwan, Eastday, Sina, Sohu and so forth edited and reprinted the news, boosting the influence of the institute and creating an atmosphere with positive public opinions for the further development of the institute.

It is reported that Shanghai Advanced Institute of International Shipping aims at setting up a Think Tank of top-notch shipping service talents and its foundation is good for the construction of top-notch shipping talent output base. The institute will satisfy the urgent need by Shanghai, China, or even the whole Asian market to own top-notch international shipping financial talents. It lays a good foundation for the construction of Shanghai Shipping Finance Centre.

Currently, various work has smoothly started in Shanghai Advanced Institute of International Shipping. After the opening ceremony on December 6, 2013, Jing Fangxian, the general manager of the Chinese Business Division of Structural Trade Finance Department of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, held a lecture for the EMBA students. During December 6 to December 8, professor QU Linchi of School of Economics and Management of Shanghai Maritime University instructed the students with the first course.
