Mr. Shi Xin, an SMU Professor and PhD Advisor, gave a series of lectures to the 2013 EMBA students on Modern Enterprise Management: Perspective and Operation from October 17 to 19.

Professor Shi first interpreted the new definition of enterprise management in today’s shipping industry, and explained some basic operating modes by industry giants such as Maersk, HOEGH Autoliners and Teekay Shipping. He then made in-depth analysis on the trends and troubles that modern shipping enterprises might deal with under the current domestic economic situation and global trading environment. Based on such an analysis, Professor Shi proposed to construct a science- and ecology-oriented port to support shipping companies’ future transition, innovation, and regional development.

Applying his theories into practice, Professor Shi discussed with the students their own operating problems to formulate targeted strategies and suggestions for them.

Professor Shi is a council member of China Communications and Transportation Association, and he also serves as a member of Committee of Experts in China’s Ministry of Transportation. In recent years, Professor Shi joined and completed a variety of 23 research projects and published 3 books. He has achieved remarkable excellence in his studies to modern water-transport enterprise management and research on port enterprise competition strategies. As a winner of Henry Fok Young College Teacher Award and a figure among Ten Outstanding Young Persons in Pudong District, he receives special government allowances from China’s State Council.
