Statistics Professor Xu Guoxiang Gave a Lecture in SAIIS

On the evening of September 26, statistics professor Xu Guoxiang from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics gave the lecture Commodity Price Index Research for the EMBA student of class of 2014 in Shanghai Advanced Institute of International Shipping.


Professor Xu Guoxiang introduced the background of the research. In his view, the price volatility of the commodity supply-demand relationship reflects the direction of the economic expansion and contraction, which can predict national macroeconomic. Meanwhile the decline of commodity price will lead to three major economic problems, that is, housing bubble, local government bond and excess capacity. His research has chosen many representative commodities in China’s commodity spot market, whose changes of price average can help to attribute and measure the comprehensive dynamic evolution of China’s Commodity spot market prices.


Professor Xu Guoxiang is a statistics professor as well as the director of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Application Statistics Research Center. As a member of index expert committees of Shanghai Stock Exchange and China Securities Index Co.. LTD, he has made great contributions to the founding of Shanghai composite index and China securities index systems, the release of underlying asset of stock index futures of Shanghai-Shenzhen 300 index and Shanghai bond index as well as the development of index business. Besides, Shanghai social economic index series of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics hosted and established by professor Xu Guoxiang has been well received in the society, which not only has academic value but also has economic and social benefits.
